purpose statement draft 1

Here are my two thoughts today on my purpose statement. I will try again tomorrow with a fresh pair of eyes as I'm not 100% comfortable with it yet. I also have a few questions I think I would like answered with my study. I think I need a little guidance about the dissertation timeline/process by my dissertation chair before feeling completely comfortable with it.

What are your thoughts (read below)

A. The purpose of this study is to analyze positive AAC outcomes using internet training/resources with internet support group produce significantly better learning outcomes in parents of children using AAC as compared to online training without internet support groups

B. The purpose of this study is to analyze how online training with an online support group compares in terms to positive AAC outcomes (e.g. family comfort levels and more AAC use from the AAC user in the home setting) compared to the group without support group.

For the purposes of this study, two groups will be randomly assigned to a group with online support and the other group without online support.  How does the group with online support differ from the group without online support in terms of comfort levels having AAC in their home? How does the group with online support differ from the group without online support in terms of their children’s ability to use the AAC in the home setting. How frequently to families who receive online support seek the guidance of their peers online and how does that affect their interaction with their children using AAC?

  1. Great job ActivelyAchievingCommunication! For your purpose statement, maybe change to

The purpose of this study is to compare AAC learning outcomes as a result of online training in parents using internet support groups versus parents not using internet support groups.

Or something like this. For your research questions, a few minor suggestions:

    1. How do comfort levels in using AAC in the home for parents receiving online training with an online support group differ from parents receiving online training without an online support group?

    2. How do children’s ability to use AAC in the home setting for parents receiving online training with an online support group differ from parents receiving online training without an online support group?

    3. How frequently do families who receive online support seek the guidance of their peers online?

    4. What is the relationship between the frequency of using online support and the amount of interaction with their children using AAC?

    or something like this...

    1. Thank you Dr. Reeves. I emailed a few times with my dissertation chair and I think I'm changing it slightly - a new post coming sooN! Thanks! I didn't think about the internal validity and using FB group means someone needs to moderate it - meaning not me -- that puts a large stick on the plan. Thanks!

  2. Looks like you've got it going! The wording in your purpose statement was a bit confusing, but I think I got the just of it. ;)
