I keep reading the text section and PPT sections that talk about these two part of our assignment ... and I'm having difficulty separating the two ... I want to write similar things and I know I'm missing the mark. Any help would be appreciated.
Background and Justification
The evidence from the literature and experience showing the
problem exists and the relevance. Include at least two references.
Deficiencies in the
Evidence
Include a brief discussion that details the area of need in
relation to the problem and the deficiency or lack of evidence in the
literature.
Be my missing piece to my puzzle!
Background & Justification
- I have literature that states there is a problem with the lack of support given to parents who have children with AAC. My literature describes the AAC team for the children leaving out the parents. I have literature stating AAC abandonment when the parents aren't involved and have significant concerns and questions about the AAC. ...
Deficiencies in the Evidence
- There isn't much literature about the parents getting the supports they need ... or the research that states the parents need support is outdated ... ???
THANKS!

Hi Kristy! They will certainly be tied together. You are correct for the background and justification section that you want to provide evidence that the problem exists. So yes, the relevant literature you described above is appropriate. You also need to include local data/evidence that this is a problem (i.e., in your work setting). You can use personal experience, personal communication with fellow parents or colleagues (all informal at this point), or experiences of others to support this.
ReplyDeleteFor the Deficiencies section, what are the gaps in the literature? What does the literature NOT cover? If there isn't much about parents getting supports then this would be a deficiency; another potential deficiency (of course it depends on what the literature states) is that there is no literature supporting or suggesting what parents need to effectively implement AAC with their children. It could be that all the literature focuses on the SLP or the patient (or in a hospital setting), but nothing really looks at the parents. Or something like this.
Thank you so much! That clarifies now I"m going to go look at your other comment so I can finalize my assignment - thanks for the tip about 'informal' because that was a hold up too for me.
